Abstract: This paper tries to identify and discuss in some detail the main layers of Semitic loanwords in Northern Somali. The first two sections describe the language in object, the group of East Cushitic dialects and languages of which it is part and the languages with which it is now in contact. The following sections discuss a number of loanwords in NS that can be ascribed to three major Semitic language groups: Ancient South Arabian, Arabic, Southern Ethiosemitic.
Maqaalkani wuxuu falanqaynayaa qaybka mid ah ee ereyada Semitika oo laga dhex helo lahjadda Soomaalida woqooyi. Labada qayb ee hore waxay ka hadlayaan afka, koox afeed iyo lahjadeed ee Kushitigga Bari iyo afafka maanta xiriirka la leh. Qaybaha ku xiga waxay ka hadlayaan ereyada ergashada ku yimid oo laga dhex helayo lahjadaha Soomaalida woqooyi, kuwaasoo ka soo kale jeeda saddex koox ee afafka Semitigga: koofur Areebiya, af Carbeedka iyo afafka Semitigga ee Itoobiyada koofureed.
