Abstract: Particle Therapy (PT) is a technique that exploits accelerated charged ions for the treatment of solid cancers. The irradiation accuracy and the conformity achievable with charged particles beams help to minimize damage to the surrounding healthy tissues and Organs At Risk (OAR) in tumor proximity. To fully take advantage of the improved therapy spatial selectiveness a novel monitoring technique is required in order to provide on-line a high precision feedback on the position of the maximum dose release, the Bragg Peak (BP), during the treatment. In the present PhD thesis a novel on-line dose monitoring technique to be applied in particle therapy treatments is described.
