Essi, secondo la consuetudine, si presentano in occasione di nascite di figli maschi o durante i matrimoni pretendendo un’offerta samanyo in cambio di un amuleto makaraan nel nord del paese e di versi di elogio nel sud. Si avanza inoltre l’ipotesi che gli Yibir discendano da un’elite religiosa ebraica preesistente all’islamizzazione del paese._-_In this conversation the elders consider the myth surrounding the Yibir or caadoqaate. Traditionally they turn up at male childrens’ birth or at weddings to claim an offering samanyo in exchange for a charm in the North of the country while exchanging poetic praise in the South. It is suggested that the Yibir are descended from a Hebrew religious elite from the time before islamization of the country.
