Abstract: In this paper, the author presents two religious poems produced in Somalia in the early years of the 20th century and attempts to view them as embedded in the local history and cultural context of East Africa and the Horn. The author looks at the work and influence of the female poet and Muslim saint, Dada Masiti, who was based in Brava town on the Benadir coast of Somalia.
