I ripetuti attacchi alle navi lungo le coste somale hanno destato l'attenzione internazionale e una risoluzione del Consiglio di Sicurezza del 2008 (n. 1816) ha introdotto nuove regolamentazioni in materia di pirateria e diritto del mare. L'articolo illustra in dettaglio la questione descrivendo caratteristiche, limiti e implicazioni della risoluzione e dell'uso della forza.
