Five years of written Somali: A report on progress and prospects

Abstract

In these short notes, the author makes an assessment on the progress achived in the use of written Somali after five years since its introduction in 1972. He reports about its use in education, the production of schooltext and the the process of language modernization put in place in order to meet the new needs in fields such as science, administration and so on.

Gaar ahaan wuxuu diiradda saarayaa xagga waxbarashada, diyaarinta buugaagta dugsiyada iyo habsocodka casriyaynta afka si af Soomaaliga looga dhigo mid lagu gudbin karo figrado la xiriira sayniska, maamulka iyo waxii la halmaala.

In queste brevi note, l'autore fa il punto sui progressi raggiunti nell'uso del somalo scritto a cinque anni dalla sua introduzione nel 1972. Si concentra soprattutto sul suo uso nell'istruzione, sulla produzione di testi scolastici e sul processo di modernizzazione della lingua avviato al fine di venire incontro alle nuove esigenze di settori come quello scientifico e amministrativo, e così via.
