The role of poetic inserts in the novel Aqoondarro waa u Nacab Jacayl, by Faarax M.J. Cawl

Abstract

In this article, first published in 1992, the author analyses the the role of poetic inserts in the novel "Aqoondarro waa u nacab jacayl" by Faarax M.J. Cawl. Although the novel is mainly in prose, the writer has sometimes chosen the poetic form, in some dialogues or for detailed descriptions for exemple. It is argued here that the function of these poetic inserts is of foregrounding: dramatic tension, emotional intensity and narrative emphasis. Far from reducing the likelihood of the novel, they enhance it since the story is set at a time when the use of poetry as a means of social communication was widespread.

In questo articolo, apparso per la prima volta nel 1992, l'autore analizza il ruolo degli inserti poetici nel romanzo "Aqoondarro waa u nacab jacayl" di Faarax M.J. Cawl. Nonostante il romanzo sia scritto in prosa, lo scrittore ha scelto la forma poetica in alcuni passaggi, nei dialoghi o nelle descrizioni dettagliate ad esempio. Si ipotizza qui che la funzione della presenza dei versi sia di mettere in evidenza, sottolineare determinati temi o aspetto: tensione drammatica, intensità emotiva, enfasi narrativa. Lungi dal ridurre la verosimiglianza del romanzo, la rafforzano dal momento che la storia è ambientata in un tempo in cui l'uso della poesia come mezzo di comunicazione sociale era molto diffuso.
