Songs from the south

Abstract

The poetry of the Rahanweyn has not been studied and documented at the same extent then other Somali groups' poetry. The article presents three poems, that can be defined as 'historiographical ballads': an original genre of story-telling about major historic events that shaped the clan.

Maansada Raxaweynta looma danayn sida aadka looga daneeyey maansada Soomaalida kale, sidaa darteed aad looma yaqaan, maadaama aan la baarin wax badanna laga qorin. Maqaalku wuxuu ka kooban yahay saddex maanso taariikheed: waa qaab maanso oo aan caadi ahayn, oo ka sheekaynaysa dhacdooyin muhim ah oo dhaliyay samaysan beeleed.

La poesia dei Rahanweyn non ha ricevuto la stessa attenzione accordata alla poesia di altri gruppi somali, risultando quindi poco documentata e conosciuta. L'articolo presenta tre poesie che possono essere definite 'ballate storiografiche': genere originale di narrazione dei principali eventi storici che hanno dato forma al clan.
