Music and metre in Somali poetry

Abstract

The aim of this study is to show how a system of metrical scansion interacts with a melodic-rhythmic system in the different kinds of Somali poetry, how they concur in fixing and suggesting to the poet the rules that govern how verse is to be composed ang sung.

Ulajeeddada hawshani waxay tahay in la muujiyo sida ay u wada shaqaeeyaan nidaamka miisaanka iyo luuqada maansooyinka Soomaaliyeed ee kala duwan iyo sida gabyaagu isu waafajiyo xeerarkaas.

Lo scopo di questo lavoro è dimostrare come un sistema di scansione metrico interagisce con un sistema melodico-ritmico nei diversi generi poetici somali, come questi sistemi concorrono nel fissare e suggerire al poeta le regole che governano il verso: come deve essere composto e cantato.
