Abstract: This paper is concerned with the analysis of Focus constructions that include Focus Markers (FM) as obligatory elements to obtain Focus interpretation. Its aim is to show that the presence of FMs is not a parameter per se, but is crucially connected to specific and independent modules of Universal Grammar.
