Clanship, conflict and refugees: an introduction to Somalis in the Horn of Africa

Abstract

The aim of this paper, adressed in Parts I and II, is to provide readers with an introduction to Somali society (in particular to the clan system, with the help of genealogical charts) and modern history. The second objective, adressed in Part III, is to provide an overview of the clan and demographic composition of the refugee camps in eastern Ethiopia and of patterns of repatriation and reinetegration in North West Somalia.

L'obiettivo della I e II parte di questo studio è di fornire al lettore un'introduzione alla società somala (il sistema clanico, con l'aiuto di schemi genealogici) e alla storia moderna. L'obiettivo della III parte è di fornire una panoramica sulla composizione clanica e demografica dei campi profughi in Etiopia orientale e sui modelli di rimpatri e reinserimento nella Somalia nord-occidentale.
