Abstract: The paper aims at outlining Shungwaya, a state of sorts which controlled much of South Somalia and East Kenya (9th to 14th century), and it aims at showing it implicated ancestors of many people who now speak Cushitic as well as Bantu languages.

L'articolo mira a delineare lo Shungwaya, uno stato di sorta che controllava gran parte del Sud della Somalia e del Kenya orientale (IX-XIV secolo), e a mostrare come ciò implicherebbe antenati Shungwaya di molte popolazioni che ora parlano lingue cuscitiche e lingue Bantu.
