The Refugee Health Unit of the Somali Ministry of Health - A History of an extraordinarily successful Somali Programme

Abstract

This paper reviews the history of the Refugee Health Unit (RHU) of the Somali Ministry of Health (which is responsible for the guidance and coordination of all health care activities in the Somali refugee camps), not so much from a medical point of view but rather as an analysis of the main reasons for its successful development, and it tries to point out lessons which might be useful for other programmes.
