Abstract: This paper describes the results of an experiment designed to test the acquisition of noun definiteness in Somali. It was originally assumed that the major factors involved would be cognitive, e.g. age or intellectual development. However the results show that the major factor in the acquisition of this rule is an urban vs. nomadic childhood home (which is representative of the extent of exposure to oral traditional literature).
Maqaalkani wuxuu ka hadlayaa natiijadii tijaabo loogu talaggalay in lagu ogaado dowrka cayiminaanta magacyada af-soomaaliga. Saas ay tahay natiijooyinku waxay muujinayaan in sababaha ugu muhimsan ee saameeya habka wax kororsashada waa bahka ku koritanka magaalo vs miyi (oo ku xiran ilaa heerka uu qofku ugu xiranyahay suugaantii hore).
